Reading Skills for Healthcare Workers

When Danna was growing up, she dreamed of helping people. She wanted to work in the medical field, and she became a nurse assistant.

Today, Danna works in a large hospital. She enjoys her job. She is always conscientious at work, which means she tries to do the best and most careful job she can every day. She always gets to work on time. She carefully reads the instructions for each patient, as they might need different types of care. If she has a question, she makes sure to ask her supervisor. When she talks with others, she makes sure to say “please” and “thank you.” Also, Danna only discusses private patient matters with her supervisor and the other nursing professionals at work. Showing this integrity at work is an important part of a nurse assistant’s job.

Danna treats all of her patients with respect and kindness. She knows they may not feel well physically or mentally and hopes that interacting with them in a positive way will help them feel better.

Each day, Danna greets her coworkers with a “Good morning!” or a “Hello!” She makes small talk with them during break times. When she is finished with her lunch or break, she always cleans up after herself in the break room. Danna wants to set a good example for her coworkers by being courteous, neat, and helpful. She is glad for the friends she has made at the hospital.

Having integrity and being courteous and conscientious at work has helped Danna enjoy her job even more.
