Continuing Education
The facility that Latasha Montgomery works for requires all of its nursing assistants to participate in 20 hours of continuing education each year. One of the requirements is a 4-hour first aid/CPR refresher class. The other hours can be in any area of nursing care. Latasha will choose some of her continuing education options from the following list:

Preventing Abuse in Long Term Care
Includes an overview of abuse including types and examples. Participants will learn how to recognize abuse. The presenters will also discuss guidelines and requirements for reporting. 2 hours

What Do You Know About HIPPA?
Review the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA). This class includes a review of the regulations and identification of who must follow the law. Also included are guidelines for confidentiality and transfer of information. 2 hours

Basic Disaster Preparedness in Long-Term Care Centers
Understand what should be in a disaster plan and how to help create a disaster plan for your unit or facility. Participants will learn guidelines and best practices for being prepared. 4 hours.

Customer Service for Nursing Assistants
Identify ways good customer service can improve your workplace and resident care. Participants will have a chance to practice different ways of dealing with customer service situations. 2 hours.

Isolation Technique
Review proper use of gowns, masks, gloves, and other personal protective equipment (PPE) when working with patients who require various kinds of isolation care. 2 hours.
